RICHARD JACKSON
GLASS SCULPTOR
‘Ideas come from experience.
Form evolves from thought.
Time and energy give rise to sculpture.’
An impression, a question, an idea, these are always, the starting points for Richard Jackson’s work. He records images and impressions of his experiences, using drawing, writing and photography.
Working with words, the title for the piece emerges, with modelling and drawing the form emerges.
Complex volumes, fine edges and points, perfect curves, a hidden point of balance, come together to create a moment of pure expression.
The form is the signifier, the layers of mark making provide a language, challenging the boundaries between surface and internal volume.
Notational, gestural, rhythmically textural, a few large calligraphic strokes, all inform a history of memories and lives, both past and yet to be played out.
The resulting work expresses his findings and raises new questions.
27 years of thoughtful development bring you the confident and challenging sculptures of Richard Jackson. Throughout this time he has travelled widely recording images and impressions of his experiences,
as well as working in studios and studying in the USA, Denmark and UK. His formal education was at West Surrey College of Art and Design, graduating with a BA (Hons), Three Dimensional Design – Glass in 1989.
Richard has created numerous commissions for private, corporate and public spaces and has 15 years experience of creating artworks for marine vessels. In 2010 he was awarded an important ‘Museumaker’,
Arts Council, commission to create a large exterior site specific sculpture for the award winning museum, The Lightbox, in the UK.
